Coach Eddie Robinson - © 2007 Reggie McLeroyIn 1997, the year of Coach Eddie G. Robinson's final season, I was inspired to paint one of my most sought after portraits, Coach Eddie G. Robinson's Last 50 Yards to Glory. This painting was created to commemorate Grambling State University's legendary football coach's end of an era, and his last home game. Little did I know ten years later, upon his death, that this portrait would truly be an attestation to the fact of his "last yards to glory".

I was humbled and very proud that Coach Robinson's widow, Doris Robinson, personally asked me if she could use this portrait as the cover for his funeral program. Of course, there was never a moment's hesitation on my part to share this portrait with the family and the country. Coach Robinson was very instrumental in my early art career. I credit him for giving me the opportunity to share my artwork with the world by creating my first GSU football program cover some twenty years ago.
