Wildlife Artwork by Reggie McLeroy

About Reggie McLeroy

Reggie McLeroyI'm a native of Ruston, Louisiana. As a child, I discovered my talents as an artist while in my second year of school. Throughout my elementary grades, I won numerous awards for being the best artist in my grade level.

After graduating from high school and college, I returned to Ruston and immediately became an English teacher and assistant basketball coach at my Alma Mater, Ruston High School.

All through my early years, I enjoyed hunting and fishing because it kept me out of trouble, it taught me how to have patience, and it also taught me how to respect nature and my fellow man.

Because of my love for the outdoors, I turned my focus toward wildlife art. In 1994, I published my first series of wildlife prints which was a set of four different white-tailed deer prints in black and white. Today, I have over 25 different wildlife prints done in watercolor, pencil and pen & ink.

In 1994, I created the cartoon character "Lil Daddy" which appears in the Monroe Newstar for the past ten years. "Lil Daddy's Filosophies from Da Hood" is a single panel cartoon that sends out positive messages to young people. "Lil Daddy" has been a tremendous success as it nears its seventh year of publication. " Praise God!"

Thus far, I'm truly happy with my accomplishments and I give all the glory and honor to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Awards and Accomplishments

  • 2002-2003 Duck Stamp & Print2000 Winner of the Louisiana Wildlife Stamp
  • 2002 Winner - LA Waterfowl Conservation Stamp & Print
  • National Wild Turkey Federation - Honorable Mention 2000 Grand Nat'l. Art Print Competition
  • Chosen to paint the 2003 Turkey Stamp for the state of Texas. This was a painting of a Rio Grande turkey on the side of a small hill gobbling to the sound of the thunder while lightning is flashing across the sky in the distance. The dark blue sky illustrates the storm is rapidly approaching.
  • Chosen by The Canadian Wildlife Conservation Stamp Program to paint the Canadian Whitetail for the Saskatchewan. Each Canadian Province & Territory (with the exception of Quebec) is individually represented by a painting of wildlife found within its borders. The title of my painting is "Something's Coming". In this painting, there's a Boone & Crockett Whitetail looking over his shoulder at something moving in the distance.
  • Commissioned by the National Whitetail Association to paint and produce their first official print for their individual chapter banquets. The painting illustrates a big whitetail walking along a field line near some posted land. The title of the painting if "Living on the Edge". The N.W.A. is already talking to me about the next print.
  • Reggie painting Ryder's Cup posterWith LSU winning their first national football championship since 1958, I decided to do something special commemorating their 2003 College Football National Championship. From the beginning, I wanted to do something that would be different from what other artists might render. I figured that most artists would paint the players, the coach or "The Sack". I wanted to stay away from these things and illustrate the entire season for the LSU Tigers. I knew that in order for me to do that, I would have to paint a beautiful tiger with all the trophies that LSU received during the 2003 season. I also knew that I wanted him lying in the middle of the football field. My painting is titled: "The Year of the Tigers". Personally, I feel it is my best painting yet!
  • Chosen to paint the official poster for the 2004 Ryder Cup Matches. I was asked to do this by the PGA (Professional Golfers' Association) and by Ryder Cup Captain, Hal Sutton. The composition of the poster consists of the following: A Bald Eagle holding the American flag, the Ryder Cup Trophy, Ryder Cup Captain Hal Sutton, Oak Hill Country Club, and the 12 U.S. Players participating. This is an opportunity that only my Lord and Savior could have made possible.
